3 weeks old

after
before

Yep Rosie is 3 weeks old today. Shes rode in a helicopter had a surgery and is trying to grow, shes been a busy little girl. She is up to 10 mils she has to go without for a day because of the surgery but will be back in no time to that amount. She is still a little passed out from the pain medication and the muscle relaxer. They don't put them under like they would if and adult had a surgery. The anesthesiologist only uses those two things. She had an iv in her head.

surgery went well

just thought I would let everyone know the surgery went well Rosie is resting there were no complications. I will post some before and after pictures later. Thanks for all your prayers!!!

surgery

Sorry no update yesterday we came home and now we have to go right back because Rosie has to have the surgery for the PDA today at noon. Please pray that everything goes well its a pretty simple surgery but it is a surgery. Will update after the surgery.

trouble with PDA

Rosie had a little bit of a rough day her PDA is getting larger and starting to cause her trouble. Her oxygen has been up and down all day. She cant take the medicine for it because they started giving her a steroid to help her release fluids and it doesn't work with the heart medicine. If it keeps bothering her before they wean her off the steroid they may have to do the operation. Otherwise she is eating good and is still at 1 pound and 9 oz. Please pray for a good outcome for this.

Rosie is having a good day today excellent blood gas, off the dopamine, and up to 8 mils of milk every hour. She is also up to 1 pound and 10 ounces. There are no scheduled labs only the regular blood gas every 6 hours. The oxygen is down to 30%. When its 20% they will take her off the vent again to see how she handles it. I would like to thank everyone for their wonderful comments and their prayers!!

2 weeks

Rosie is 2 weeks old today she finally opened her eyes right after we left so we didnt see her open them. Which is sad but great the she opened them just wish we could have been there. We will be at home tonight so tomorrow we can send balloons to heaven for Rosies sister Alessa who was "born an angel" 1 year ago on the 25th of july. Then we will get back up to Des Moines as soon as we can.
Rosie is gaining weight and getting more food every day it may onlybe ounces and mils but when your that small every little bit counts.

eating good

Rosie is now up to 3 mils of milk every 3 hours and tolerating it good. She does have a small murmur of the pda. Which they are not 2 worried about at this point and the operation to close it is not an open heart surgery. It is for the most part an easy surgery and fairly common in preemies, with a good outcome in most babies. Urine output today is good and blood gases are good also. So she is having a good day. She is resting on her Mommas chest right now, sleeping peacefully. She got a little hat today. Its so cute.

10 days

Rosie the Riveter

Today Little Rosie is 10 days old. I have been gone from home for 10 days tonight is the first night we will be home. She is not the youngest baby in the NICU but she is the smallest still. The last 10 days have been like a whirlwind. I cant wait to get back up there though because that is my new normal. Her blood gas is still good she just got tired again and needed a little help breathing. But so far the bloodwork is all good and nothing else is showing up.

back on the vent

Rosie had to go back on the vent today she either just got tired or she has an underlying infection which they are testing her for now. If no results come back she may have to have a full workup and that would include looking at the fluid in her lungs and doing a spinal tap. She had no spells just a low blood gas. Today Momma is feeling a little cough coming on and it may be a cold so we are spending some time at RMH today and may go home for the night. Not sure yet it depends on the test results.

I really hate to leave!! I really hate not knowing what our future is going to be. I cant control the outcome of this situation and its the worse feeling in the world.

good day

Rosie had a good day today. Still no spells her blood gas was a little low and they gave her a medicine to bring it up and that worked. She is getting feeding every 3 hours now the pooper is still working good. Her nurse Amy was there today and she loves Amy shes such a good girl I didnt hear her ding nearly as much as yesterday. She likes being on her tummy the best. Not surprising since her mom and I both sleep on our stomachs. When I always lose my faith in humanity it always surprises me when so many people do so much for others like the Ronald Mcdonald house, all the nurses at the hospital, and the many organizations that support people in medical emergencies that have to be far from home and all the friends. Thanks everyone!!

kangaroo night

The day was pretty uneventful. Rosie is still off the vent and still no spells as of the time we left. She got to snuggle with her Momma. And we heard her cry it gets a little bigger each time. Still no open eyes, that will be next. Gonna go to bed early tonight got visiters coming tomorrow. will post more tomorrow.

still off vent

Rosie is still off the vent and she has had no spells since shes been off. Remember, spells are when she forgets to breathe. She also had another poop. Shes being a little wiggler today. Mom gets to hold her today since she didnt have any spells. Will take more pictures then. Waiting for the 4 o'clock changing and feeding for pics. Keep up the praying!!

poop

Rosie had her first poop today YAY She is still off the breathing machine and has had no spells today. Her phisical therapist came and saw her yesterday too and everything looks fine there too. She cried today too it was very tiny but we heard her. Daddy came today and got to hold her for the blanket change and got to clean her first poop. Well he helped anyway.

off the vent

They took Rosie off the vent today. And they have her face uncovered also. She is doing good on the blood gas so far. They will draw another one at 6. She has less tubes in her today it seem like. We might even get to hear her cry today. Her lights are dinging a little more on her machine, but it keeps stopping by itself.
We dont really know whyRosie came early. Mom tore her placenta at about 2 months and had been on bed rest but that was healing. Will write more later.

In a few days she will get her first bath. Shes been keeping a good temp. She was being a little wiggler when we left.

resting on day 7

Sitting up at the hospital. Rosie is doing good today. She got all the lines out of her bellybutton now so now when the get blood they have to stick her heel. Mom got to change the diaper today lifting up and everything it went well. Momma says shes so tiny she was afraid to hurt her but she didnt. Rosie is being a good girl today no fussing. Shes resting comfortably on her belly now.

day 7

Well Rosie will be a week old tomorrow. All in all her first week has been good. She was a little restless today so they have her on morphine to help her rest. Shes doing good though. Her skin is looking better everyday, nice and pink now. Her room is getting homey looking with decorations and pictures. Shes such a sweetheart. We spent a few hours up there tonight. I want to mention her nurse Amy and say that she is just wonderful. She always comes and talks to us as soon as we get there she answers all our questions and also will talk to us about other stuff too. She always makes sure to ask if we need anything. Shes talks to Rosie to comfort her and makes sure she is as comfortable as can be. Thanks Amy!!

Can we live in des moines for months? Probably not. We have aplace to stay at the ronald mcdonald house but Im the ony person with a car and I cant leave my hubby without a car for months on end.

day 3

Rosie is off the vent for now she has had a few "spells" where they have to remind her to breathe which is normal for micro-premies. Her blood gassas at 4:00 were excellent. All very good news for now. We have been warned about good days and bad days. This is a "good day" Keep praying for Rosie May

Update

Day 2
Sitting in Des Moines at the Holiday inn right across from the hopsital. Rosie May is still doing good she is stable her blood pressure was low and she had medicine for that and also some insulin to lower her blood sugar. She is for now on the lowest setting for the oxygen that has been changing but is stable now also. Tomorrow we hope her Mamma gets out of the hospital so she can come up here.
